Student Opportunities

Longwood University has over 175 student organizations in which students can actively engage. Below are a few organizations that may be of interest to Longwood students. Lancer Link is an excellent resource for students to explore all available opportunities.

Club Sports and Campus Recreation - There are a number of club sports teams such as Women's and Men's Rugby, Ultimate Frisbee, Club Baseball, and Women's Volleyball, to name a few. There are also a number of outdoor recreational opportunities. 

Fraternity and Sorority Life - The Fraternity and Sorority Life community at Longwood University has a long, rich tradition of fostering student involvement and development. Since the founding of the first Greek organization in 1898, fraternity and sorority members have formed the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood, strive to maintain high-grade point averages, and provide service to the University and the surrounding community. In fact, Longwood University is internationally known as the "Mother of Sororities" with four national chapters having been founded on campus over 100 years ago. 

Independent Greek Organizations - A wide variety of other non-social Greek organizations are available to Longwood students including groups focusing on academic interest, service, and leadership.

Lancer Productions (LP) - LP is the student programming board. They plan a variety of educational and social events for the Longwood community. Some of their most popular events are Welcome Back BINGO, Halloween Haunted House, and Spring Weekend. Most of the LP events take place on a Friday or Saturday night. LP is open to all students and if you are interested or have any questions please feel free to contact the office at (434) 395-2106.

Mortar Board - Is an honor society in which rising seniors are chosen for membership through their achievement in scholarship, leadership and service. Members of Mortar Board are chosen to advance a spirit of scholarship, to recognize and encourage leadership, to provide service, and to establish the opportunity for a meaningful exchange of ideas as individuals and as a group. Mortar Board is known for planning Oktoberfest which occurs on the first Saturday in October. 

Service Opportunities - There are many opportunities to give back to Longwood, Farmville, and the larger community through volunteering and participating in one of the following programs Welcome Home Lancers, Big Siblings, MLK Challenge or Alternative Breaks. There are opportunities for individual service to meet all students' needs. 

Student Government Association (SGA) - SGA is the voice of all Longwood students. Their mission is to advance the student's interests. They meet every Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. in the Wilson Chamber, 300 Upchurch University Center. 

The Rotunda - Is Longwood's independent and student-run newspaper which is published once a week, both online and in a printed version.
