Longwood University’s Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is hosting the Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics (VCTM) 2019 Annual Conference March 8 – 9. This year’s conference theme For the Love of Students, We Teach Mathematics, reflects our conference location in the Heart of Virginia. Approximately 650 mathematics educators and administrators will be attending the conference.
The Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics is a state-wide organization of mathematics educators (PreK – 16) dedicated to stimulating an active interest in mathematics teaching and learning by promoting the improvement of mathematics education, providing leadership in the professional development of teachers, and facilitating cooperation among organizations at the local, state, and national levels.
The keynote speaker is Dr. Karen Graham, Professor and Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of New Hampshire. She is also the director of the department’s summer Master of Science for Teachers program. Dr. Graham chaired the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Catalyzing Change in High School Mathematics Task Force and Writing Team.
