Senior year is a time to celebrate how far you’ve come, prepare for what comes next and enjoy the people and places that have made Longwood feel like home. The Alumni Office and Senior Class Council create traditions and opportunities throughout the year to help your class mark this important transition together.

Senior Sunrise

Senior Sunrise brings classmates together at the beginning of the academic year to mark the start of senior year. This informal celebration is a chance to recognize how far you’ve come and look ahead to the traditions, milestones and memories still to come.

100 Days 'til the Tassel Turns

At 100 Days 'til the Tassel Turns, the countdown to Commencement begins. This event combines celebration with the practical information seniors need as graduation approaches.

Students can:

See the Senior Week schedule
Vote for the senior and alum who will emcee Senior Toast
Purchase the senior T-shirt
Meet Commencement-related vendors
Learn about regalia, photography and videography
Order a class ring in time for the Ring Ceremony
Spend time with faculty
Take part in raffles and giveaways

The event also marks the launch of Road to Commencement.

Senior Class Council

Senior Class Council works with the Alumni Office to help plan traditions, social events and activities that bring the senior class together throughout the year. The president, vice president, treasurer and secretary are elected, with additional students serving as members of the council.

Senior Giving & the Class Paver

Senior giving helps fund Senior Week activities and a class gift to Longwood. Each class’s giving participation is recorded on a paver installed on Wheeler Mall—the same path graduates cross on their way to the Commencement stage.

The class returns during Homecoming the following year to see its paver installed, creating a visible connection between senior year and life as Longwood alumni.

Senior Sunset

Senior Sunset brings the class together near the end of senior year to celebrate, reflect and look ahead. It serves as the closing bookend to Senior Sunrise and the year your class has shared.

Senior Week

Senior Week is the culmination of your time at Longwood—a chance to celebrate with classmates, spend time together in Farmville and enjoy some of the traditions and experiences that have made Longwood feel like home.

The schedule changes from year to year, but the week is filled with fun, camaraderie and opportunities to check a few final experiences off your Longwood bucket list. Senior Toast is one of the signature moments near the end of the week.
