Outdoor Classrooms

Longwood has two outdoor classrooms in front of the Health & Fitness Center, one of the classroom is adjacent to Johns Residence Hall and the other is next to the Hull Education Center. The outdoor classrooms offer a refreshing alternative to hosting class or meetings indoors. No reservations required; the outdoor classrooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Integrated Environmental Sciences Program

The Integrated Environmental Sciences Major at Longwood provides an interdisciplinary perspective to develop citizen leaders who are equipped to understand complex environmental issues.

The major provides strong foundational knowledge in natural and social sciences and heavily emphasizes practical skills and integrated critical thinking throughout the curriculum.

In addition, students must choose a specialization in one of the core competency areas to complete advanced elective courses.

Alternatively, a student may design an individualized concentration to best meet the student’s objectives for professional preparation.

Students receive training that is appropriate preparation for graduate studies or careers in research, teaching, industry, government, or nonprofit organizations.

Study Sustainability at Hull Springs

Participate in the Longwood University Camp for Environmental Exploration (LUCEE) at Hull Springs. 

This summer day camp is sponsored by Longwood’s Hull Springs in partnership with Westmoreland County Schools (WCPS). 

Camp counselors have the opportunity to “teach” elements of sustainability alongside certified teachers from WCPS, who earn recertification credits for their participation in the two-week camp. 

Rising 3^rd-5^th graders are eligible to attend the experiential learning program.
