Longwood Study Abroad Scholarships & Grants
Lancers Abroad Scholarship: Students who plan to study abroad through an approved, credit-bearing program are encouraged to apply for a Lancers Abroad Scholarship. To apply for the Lancers Abroad Scholarship, you must be a current Longwood University student with a minimum GPA of 2.0, and submit a 300-word essay written in English. Students applying for a scholarship for the first time may receive priority over students applying more than once. This scholarship cannot be combined with the Presidential Scholarship, Global Engagement Scholarship, or Cormier Honors scholarships unless special permission is granted by the Executive Director of the CGE.
Lancers Abroad Correspondent Scholarship: Social-media savvy students who plan to study abroad through an approved, credit-bearing program are encouraged to apply for a Lancers Abroad Correspondent Scholarship. To apply for this scholarship, you must be a current Longwood University student with a minimum GPA of 2.0 and submit a Correspondent Plan that details how you will share your experience abroad in photos, videos, and writing via various social media platforms. Students who receive this scholarship are expected to participate in various activities after their return such as the Study Abroad Fair, International Education Week, and other events as assigned by the Director of Study Abroad.
Presidential Scholarship: Students who plan to study abroad in a non-Anglophone country through an approved, credit-bearing program are encouraged to apply for the Presidential Scholarship. To apply for the Presidential Scholarship, you must be a current Longwood University student with a minimum GPA of 2.5, and submit a 500-word essay written in English. MOLA majors receive priority over students not majoring in a foreign language. This scholarship cannot be combined with the Lancers Abroad Scholarship or Cormier Honors scholarships unless special permission is granted by the Executive Director of the CGE.
Global Engagement Scholarship: Pell Grant recipients who plan to study abroad through a Longwood Faculty-Led program, are encouraged to apply for a Global Engagement Scholarship. To apply for this scholarship, you must be a current Longwood University student with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and be a Pell Grant recipient with a current FAFSA on file. Students who receive this scholarship will complete a service project to promote international education after their return.
Exchange Travel Grant: Lancers who plan to study abroad through a Longwood exchange partner institution are encouraged to apply for an Exchange Travel Grant to subsidize their travel to the exchange program location. To apply for this grant, you must be a current Longwood University student with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and have been accepted to an exchange program. This grant can be combined with other scholarships.

External Scholarships & Grants
Freeman-Asia Scholarship: The Institute for International Education solicits applicants for scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia. A Freeman-ASIA Award provides need-based funding to assist the recipient with the cost of the study abroad program and related expenses, including airfare, basic living costs, local transportation, books, etc. Grant amounts are up to $3,000 for the summer; up to $5,000 for the semester; and up to $7,000 for the academic year. Gilman Scholarship: The Gilman Scholarship program in open to U.S. citizen undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding to attend a 2- or 4-year college or university. Details, full eligibility criteria, and the online application are available at: http://iie.org/gilman.
Phi Kappa Phi Scholarship: Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society awards multiple $1000 study abroad scholarships each year. A minimum 3.75 GPA is required to apply. This scholarship is open to all students and is not limited to members of Phi Kappa Phi. Details, full eligibility criteria, and the online application are available at www.phikappaphi.org.
Boren Scholarship: The National Security Education Program funds Boren Scholarships to provide American students with resources to study in world regions critical to U.S. interests. Boren Scholars can receive up to $20,000 depending on the length of their study and commit to working in the federal government for at least one year after graduation.
