Our Cooperative Engineering programs offer five pathways to enter into an engineering career.

Traditional 4-Year B.S. in Physics

Students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Physics at Longwood University will complete all general physics requirements. The curriculum includes courses such as:

  • Quantum Mechanics
  • Advanced Physics Lab II
  • Two upper-level physics electives

B.S. in Physics with an Engineering Physics Concentration

For students interested in combining physics with engineering, this concentration includes:

  • All general physics requirements
  • Intro to Algorithmic Design I & II
  • Senior Capstone I & II
  • AC/DC Circuits
  • A physics elective
  • An engineering elective

B.S. in Physics with Graduate Studies at VCU (M.S.)

This pathway allows students to transition into graduate school by completing:

  • General physics requirements
  • Two 500-level online engineering courses during their senior year through Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU)

Minimum GPA Requirement: 3.0

Dual Degree Program with Old Dominion University (ODU)

In this program, students earn two degrees: a B.S. in Physics from Longwood University and a B.S. in Engineering from ODU. Requirements include:

  • General physics requirements
  • Two upper-level physics electives
  • 7 credits of engineering electives at ODU

Minimum GPA Requirement: 2.5

Cooperative Academic Agreement with the University of Virginia (UVA)

This agreement results in a B.S. in Physics from Longwood University and an M.S. in Engineering from UVA. Students must complete:

  • General physics requirements
  • Two upper-level physics electives
  • 7 credits of engineering electives from UVA

Minimum GPA Requirement: 3.25
