Effective Fall 2016:  The Nursing Program requires 120 credits. It has 38 general education credits plus 7 additional credits required for a BS degree at Longwood University. An additional 8 credits in natural sciences are required for the nursing major. A 3-credit course in growth and development is also identified as a major requirement. 63 credits will carry a nursing prefix.

The nursing credits are distributed as:

  • Clinical courses - 27 28 credits
  • Clinical laboratory courses - 6 credits
  • Clinical internship course - 6 4 credits

Program Progression

Challenging academics, laboratory, and clinical work are integral components of the Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) program at Longwood University. We are certain that you will be prepared to care for patients and clients of any age with varied health challenges.

To ensure your success a minimum grade of C must be earned in every pre/co-requisite to nursing courses, and all courses listed under nursing major requirements. A cumulative G.P.A. of 2.75 must be achieved by the beginning of the fall semester of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th nursing program levels or students will forfeit their seat in the nursing program. Students are subject to specified course grading and progression requirements listed in the Nursing Student Handbook, viewable in Canvas.
