Students and coach during their first coaching group meeting

Starting college is an exciting transition, and Coaching Groups are here to help you make the most of your first semester at Longwood. This program connects new Lancers with a faculty or staff coach, a student peer mentor, and a small group of peers who share similar interests, providing guidance, support, and a sense of community.

What does a Coaching Group offer?

  • Personalized Support: Your faculty or staff coach offers insights about academics, campus life, and adjusting to college.
  • Peer Mentorship: Your peer mentor, an experienced Longwood student, shares firsthand knowledge and advice to help you succeed.
  • Built-in Community: You'll meet a small group of fellow new students, giving you instant connections and a support network.
  • Goal-Setting & Growth: Coaching Groups provide a safe space to set personal and academic goals, identify challenges, and develop a plan for success.

How It Works:

  • You'll meet your Coaching Group during New Lancer Days, where you’ll start building relationships and learning key campus resources.
  • Your group will continue meeting throughout your first semester, offering regular check-ins, social opportunities, and guidance.

No matter where you’re coming from, Coaching Groups help you feel at home at Longwood from day one. Join a supportive community that will help you navigate challenges, celebrate successes, and make the most of your college experience!
