Best thing about Longwood?

The community. I feel like it’s a cliché answer, but I wasn’t prepared for how quickly it would feel like family when I became a Longwood student. I’m cared for and I feel a support system that I never expected to have outside of my hometown. I will forever be intertwined with this school and the friends I’ve made here.

One professor who you couldn’t have done it without?

Dr. Robert Marmorstein, professor of computer science, never fails to go above and beyond for each of his students. He holds late night office hours for students who need help, staying all night to be there if needed. He thinks ahead and helps his advisees start to contemplate internship opportunities early on. He is such an attentive, caring and considerate professor who craves feedback from students.

One unforgettable experience you had at Longwood?

I went on a study abroad trip to Thailand the summer of my sophomore year. I learned so much and feel like a more worldly person after experiencing a culture so different from what I’d always known. When I returned, I had a wider perspective on my studies and ideas about what I might want my future to look like—ideas that I couldn’t have imagined before. My study abroad was sort of a snapshot of what the college experience is all about: getting out of your comfort zone, being immersed in new information, learning from mistakes you make because everything is so new and enjoying the experience of growing.

If I can add one more… I am a pitcher on the softball team and beating No. 4 ranked Florida State University in Tallahassee my sophomore year is definitely something I’ll never forget!

Longwood in three words?

Meaningful. Fellowship. Exploration.

I am ready for career success because…

My time at Longwood has widened my perspective, allowing me to be a better addition to any group.
