Longwood University took home seven awards—two silver and five bronze—in the 45th Annual Telly Awards, the world’s premier honor for visual content production across all screens.
The Telly Awards recognize excellence in video and television and entries are judged by leaders from video platforms, television, streaming networks and production companies. Longwood’s seven awards are all the more impressive given this year’s Tellys saw a record-breaking 13,000 submissions from across the globe from independent production studios, networks, major brands and respected organizations. The awards were announced May 21 in New York.
Five of the award-winning videos were produced by Longwood Video Producer Ryan Fletcher, a staff member of the Marketing, Communications and Engagement Office.
We are proud to receive this global recognition that highlights Longwood’s innovative storytelling and engaging communication.

“We are proud to receive this global recognition that highlights Longwood’s innovative storytelling and engaging communication,” said Dave Hooper ’00, associate vice president for marketing and engagement. “Kudos to Ryan and our Marketing, Communications and Engagement team for this well-deserved accolade. These awards recognize the important work we do behind-the-scenes and our ability to captivate audiences and share impactful narratives.”
The two videos that were honored as silver award winners were Longwood’s 2023 holiday video and a video sharing the story of Jordan Hatmaker ’09, who survived a skydiving accident then climbed Mount Everest one year later. Both were produced by Fletcher. The holiday video was awarded in the category “Social Video—Educational Institution” and the video featuring Hatmaker was awarded in the category “Documentary: Short Form (Under 40 Minutes)—Non-Broadcast.”
Longwood’s bronze winners included a video telling the story of Martha Brown ’27, who—at 77 years old—enrolled at Longwood last fall, more than six decades after being locked out of Prince Edward County schools. Also taking home a Bronze prize was a video profiling Tyler Cosley’s ’23 path to graduation and a fun video featuring Scottish trivia released in preparation for a home men’s basketball game against the Radford University Highlanders. That video was recognized in the category “Social Video—Comedy.”
In other recent national recognition, Longwood marketing projects produced in collaboration with higher education marketing firm Spark451, a Jenzabar company, won four awards in the 39th Annual Educational Advertising Awards. The Longwood/Spark451 collaboration took home two gold awards, one bronze award and a merit award for creative and engaging printed marketing materials. The two gold awards were garnered by an “Out-Of-State” postcard and “Never Miss a Connection” TSA trays used at Richmond International Airport.
