I feel like Longwood is the right place for me. Everyone has been extremely friendly and welcoming. I love that people feel comfortable coming up to me and saying hello. I’m looking forward to meeting more people now that faculty and students are coming back. When I was at Flagler, I loved being able to walk around campus and not just see faces, but know faces, know names, and know people. So I’m looking forward to students being back to get that kind of feeling when campus is really buzzing and alive.

My first meeting with the team was a little nerve-wracking because you know they’re sitting on the other side of the door. It’s almost like The Dating Game, like Bachelor Number One or Two is behind that door. Everybody’s nervous and you’re hoping that it goes well and that it gets off to a good start. We’re at that point now where we’re more relaxed. We’ve had six weeks of being together here and eight weeks total. We’re in a good place. Now that I’ve gotten to know them and be around them, I get excited because I want to hear about their day.

I love the “Welcome to Historic Farmville” sign downtown. I thought that was really cool and it made an impression when I first came here. I love the small, quaintness of the town. Once I walked onto campus for the first time, I was like, “Wow, this is really cool.” It feels like it’s this hidden gem. Now I live a mile and a half from campus. On a Saturday or Sunday, I’ll walk from my apartment to downtown. I’ll go have breakfast at Walker’s Diner—blueberry pancakes, maybe with chocolate chips—and then I may walk through campus or just walk back to the apartment. Going back up that hill is tough, though. But I just love to be able to do that. I’m looking forward to when the rest of my family will join me here. My oldest son is now a Farmville resident. He came with me when I moved here.

I’m excited for the season and excited for all that is to come. Everything is a first for me here, and you remember all of those “first” things. I’m looking forward to them. I haven’t seen what Willett looks like with all the bleachers pulled out. I’ve been hearing about The G.A.M.E., and I’m excited to see what that’s going to look like. I’m enjoying all of the firsts and not taking them for granted.
