To me, the best things about Longwood are our traditions and secret societies. Our traditions and community made me feel so welcome here, and I have always loved seeing the things our secret societies do in spreading happiness and positivity to everyone. That’s one of the things I like to talk about as a Longwood Ambassador. I have given so many special tours. Whenever a prospective student told me that I was the one to convince them to choose Longwood, it made my whole semester.
Ambassadors is one of two organizations I have been involved with at Longwood. I was a peer mentor for the summer and fall of 2020, and it was one of the best experiences in my time here. I was blessed to have an amazing group of mentees that I kept in touch with through the end of this school year. Getting to be their mentor was an honor. Ambassadors was the first organization I joined, and I held the positions of activities and socials chair, interim vice president and pin requirement chair. Being part of Ambassadors meant the world to me, especially as an out-of-state student. I have gotten so many opportunities to share my love for Longwood with prospective and incoming students. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I met so many friends that I will have with me for the rest of my life, and I owe it all to Ambassadors.
It is hard to pin down just one faculty member who has been instrumental in my success. Dr. Mary Carver was one of my political science professors, and she helped me by writing numerous letters of recommendation. Dr. Ryan Stouffer taught me so much about discipline and things I can do to improve as a video creator. Communication studies professor Jeff Halliday gave me lots of advice on how to succeed both in and out of college. I completed an internship with the Longwood wellness unit over the summer of 2020, and I produced three videos to be shown to the freshman class. Even though I made a lot of mistakes, I learned so much from it.
My post-graduation plans are to get a full-time job. Then I will be starting my online MBA though Longwood in the spring of 2022. My time has a Lancer has done so much to prepare me to be successful in life—from all of the help from Career Services, to my internship, to the values this university instills in its students. I can’t thank Longwood enough for teaching me so much.
