Longwood’s celebrated University Lectures Series is returning to socially distanced hybrid lectures with a panel discussion centered on stories from the Covid-19 pandemic in the Farmville-Prince Edward community.
The panel discussion, featuring professors from both Longwood and Hampden-Sydney College and community health coordinators, is titled “Voices from the Pandemic: The impact and overlap of stories of racial injustice, poverty, health, and politics.”
The panel will feature:
- Lee Bidwell, professor of sociology at Longwood
- Byron Carson, assistant professor of economics and business at Hampden-Sydney
- Rhonda Pruitt, chief epidemiologist for the Piedmont Health District
- Sulola Adekoya, Piedmont Health District acting director
The panel will be moderated by Ian Danielsen, assistant professor of social work at Longwood. It will take place April 6 from 6-8 p.m.
“We are excited to restart in-person lectures after a year full of challenges,” said Danielsen. “It’s certainly natural and timely to take a look at this past year and how this community has dealt with the economic and social changes brought on by the pandemic. We’ll have a lively and thoughtful discussion about our own community and what a post-pandemic world will look like.”
University Lectures Series events are open in-person only to Longwood faculty, staff and students. Members of the community can register early for the lecture at https://bit.ly/393Pwdg.
