Longwood’s 152-page plan for re-opening this fall has been certified as complete by the State Council for Higher Education in Virginia, an important step forward in welcoming back students for the start of classes on Aug. 24.
This spring, Gov. Northam required each institution of higher education to submit detailed plans to be reviewed by the council and Virginia Department of Health covering all aspects of their re-opening plans for the fall, including:
- plans for social distancing, hygiene, housing and dining adaptations
- protections for vulnerable individuals
- workplace safety measures
- health care policies and resources
- procedures for responding to positive Covid-19 cases in the communities
- communicating with the campus and local community
“We are happy that the state has confidence in our re-opening plan and look forward to moving forward toward welcoming back students in late August,” said Matt McGregor, associate vice president for wellness and auxiliary services, who is leading a Re-opening Task Force made up of a team of cross-university leaders focused on preparations for the upcoming semester. “Our plan is very thorough and addresses every area of campus to ensure that the guidelines we have put in place are followed by every member of our community. We remain intently focused on the health of every member of the Longwood family and ensuring that we have a productive and successful semester. It’s up to all of us to understand what is expected and to take personal responsibility to follow the guidance set forth in the re-opening plan.”
