Suzy Szasz Palmer, who has presided over Greenwood Library for the last five years at a time when campus libraries are evolving quickly, will deliver the commencement address at the Graduate Commencement Ceremony on Friday, May 13, 2016.
An upstate New York native, Palmer has worked in campus libraries for more than thirty years, interrupted only by a four-year stint at the Library of Virginia, where she was director of research and information services and then deputy state librarian.
Palmer has been an inspiration to those afflicted with lupus, an autoimmune disease that she was first diagnosed with when she was 13. She’s the author of Lupus: Living With It. Why You Don’t Have to be Healthy to be Happy, which chronicles her struggles with the disease.
She is the former president of the Virginia Library Association and sits on many philanthropic and educational boards in the Richmond area. Palmer will retire as Longwood librarian in July.
