Richmond Symphony to return to Longwood Feb. 4

The Richmond Symphony is returning to the Jarman Auditorium stage in February for a night of soaring, powerful music.

The "Masterworks Concert" will be guest conducted by celebrated conductor Victor Yampolsky, the director of orchestras at Northwestern University and the music director emeritus of the Omaha Symphony Orchestra, and will feature Richmond Symphony concertmaster and violinist Daisuke Yamamoto as soloist. The performance will be held on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, at 7:30 p.m. on Longwood’s campus.

The symphony will play Concerto No. 2 in G Minor for Violin and Orchestra, Opus 63 by Prokofiev andManfred Symphony, Opus 58 by Tchaikovsky.

The performance continues a partnership established by the late Dr. John Cook, a 1952 Longwood alumnus and benefactor of the Cook-Cole College of Arts and Sciences. The Richmond Symphony has performed at Longwood since 2012.

The performance is presented with the assistance of a grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. Programs, dates and artists are subject to change.
