Julie Fowlis, a world-renowned singer of Celtic music, will present a free concert Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in Jarman Auditorium.
The concert, titled "Music of the Scottish Isles," is part of Longwood’s Chamber Music Series. Doors open at 7 p.m.; the concert begins at 7:30.
Fowlis, who sang the theme song for the soundtrack to the recent Disney-Pixar animated film Brave, is an award-winning Gaelic singer from the Outer Hebridean island of North Uist. Her music has been likened to "beautiful messages from another world."
Fowlis’ latest recording, an album of traditional songs in Gaelic titled Gach Sgeul (Every Story), earned rave reviews and led to the designation of Fowlis and her regular touring band as the Folk Act of the Year 2014 at the Scots Trad Music Awards. Audio and video clips of the group, who performed at Longwood in 2013, are available online, and concert videos are also available on YouTube.
