A Midsummer Night’s Dream to be performed at Longwood in April

Longwood University Theatre will present Shakespeare’s timeless comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream in April.

One of Shakespeare’s most popular plays, A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be performed April 9-11 and April 16-18 at 7 p.m. and April 12 and 19 at 3 p.m. Performances will be in the Mainstage Theatre of the Center for Communication Studies and Theatre at the corner of Franklin and Race streets.

Tickets ($10 for general admission; $8 for faculty/staff, senior citizens and non-Longwood students; and $6 for Longwood students) are available at the box office located on the center’s first floor. The box office is open noon-6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and online ticketing is available 24/7. For more information, visit the box office website.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which appeals to all ages, has been described as "steeped in hilarity, mischief and fantasy" and a play that will "stay with you forever."

"A Midsummer Night’s Dream is one of Shakespeare’s most enduring comedies," said Bruce Speas, associate professor of theatre, who is directing the production. "If you are seeing it for the first time or the 10th time, A Midsummer Night’s Dream’s timeless comedy will entertain you. I promise that’s what our wonderful cast will do."

Because Longwood’s Spring Weekend will occur during the first week of performances, more seats should be available that week, said Speas.
