Technology executive Dr. Val Rahmani will speak Thursday, Nov. 6, at 7:30 p.m. in Longwood University’s Wygal Auditorium on "Leading in a Digital, Risky World."
Rahmani, a director of Teradici Corporation, was CEO of Atlanta-based cyber security company Damballa Inc. from 2009-12 and held several management positions with IBM from 1981-2009. She has been a mentor to several start-ups, and she consults on technology trends, IT risk management, strategy and business models.
During her IBM career, Rahmani was general manager of several units, including Internet Security Systems, as well as hardware, software and service businesses. She also ran a strategy unit where she focused on emerging markets, global alliances and service business models.
In her Longwood talk, Rahmani will discuss risks she has taken in her professional and personal life [her hobby is aerobatic flying] and how she has "tried to take the risk out of risky things." She described leadership as "all about putting yourself in risky situations and making them safe and successful."
The talk is part of the Executive-in-Residence program in Longwood’s College of Business and Economics, which is made possible through generous support from Barrett Capital Management and Owens & Minor. For more information, visit the Executive-in-Residence site.
The event is free and open to the public.
