The Richmond Symphony Orchestra will present a free performance in Jarman Auditorium on Friday, Jan. 31, at 7:30 p.m.
Though the concert is free, tickets are required and may be reserved by calling or emailing the Longwood Box Office (434-395-2474, boxoffice@longwood.edu). Parties of larger than four people should also call the box office.
Tickets probably also will be available at the door the evening of the performance, but it is recommended that they be reserved in advance. Doors open at 7 p.m.
The concert will feature pianist George Li, described by the New York Times as playing with "elegance and wit," as well as Longwood’s Camerata Singers. Among the works on the program are Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor and two of the Coronation Anthems by Handel.
The performance is in memory of, and was made possible by, a gift from Dr. John Randall Cook, a 1952 Longwood alumnus and benefactor of the Cook-Cole College of Arts and Sciences. The concert will celebrate his love of the arts and generosity to Longwood. Dr. Cook, who died Dec. 24, 2013, also supported a concert by the Richmond Symphony Orchestra at Longwood in October 2012.
The original plan was to charge admission for the Jan. 31 concert, but the decision was later made to provide free tickets.
