In what has become a tradition marking the beginning of the Longwood University academic year, the Department of Music will present a free recital open to the public on Aug. 25.
The First Night Faculty Gala Recital will be held Monday, Aug. 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the Molnar Recital Hall in Wygal Hall on Longwood’s campus. It will feature performances by both full-time and adjunct faculty members in a wide variety of musical styles and groups, featuring solo and ensemble performances. This marks the fourth year the music faculty has put on the gala.
"This event has quickly become a fun tradition in the music department and around the Longwood community," said Charles Kinzer, chair of the music department. "The faculty looks at this as an opportunity to get the year off to an exciting start, and hopefully demonstrate some performance standards and techniques that we hope our students will achieve in their own recitals and performances."
Admission to the recital is free, and the public is invited.
