Longwood receives grant to aid science learning in area schools

Longwood University has received a $5,000 grant from Enterprise Holdings Foundation to boost scientific learning at local schools.

Dr. Michelle Parry, associate professor of physics and chair of the department of chemistry and physics, received the check from Enterprise area managers Bruce Jones and Tom McCombs. A new program developed by Longwood is designed to boost scientific inquiry-based learning based on the SOL tests at local elementary schools. The money will be used to provide access to hands-on equipment for students to learn about science and its applications. Longwood students will develop kits and activities based on the SOL test material for each grade level, and the kits will be made available for the community to check out and use. A website is being developed to provide electronic copies of all science activities.

Enterprise Holdings Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the company that, through its regional subsidiaries, operates the Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car.
