Longwood’s more than 200 student-athletes will again be the beneficiaries of the Longwood Athletics Benefit Celebration, set to be held for the fifth time this fall at the Omni Richmond Hotel. Scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 21, from 7-11 p.m., the celebration is hosted by the Lancer Club and offers an opportunity for Longwood alumni, Lancer fans and supporters of the program to come together for an evening of fun and philanthropy to raise support for Longwood’s 14 varsity athletics programs.
The fifth edition of the annual Lancer throwdown will again feature a silent auction, a live auction, music, dancing, hors d’oeuvres and an open bar. New to this year’s LABC will be a live band, the Virginia Beach-based group Cheap Thrills.
Tickets and sponsorships are available and can be purchased online at www.longwoodlancers.com/labc or by calling 434-395-2138.
“This has become one of the staples of the Longwood social calendar and is a can’t-miss opportunity for alumni and friends in the Richmond area,” said Trey Eggleston, Longwood’s assistant athletics director for development and organizer of the LABC. “This is one night where you have the chance not only to have a great time but to interact with some of the terrific student-athletes who proudly represent Longwood University.”
The auction offers attendees the opportunity to win a number of unique items, which will be announced later this summer. Going to the highest bidders in the past have been tickets to the Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning musical Hamilton on Broadway, the PGA’s Players Championship and a Caribbean cruise; a one-of-a-kind NASCAR experience; and a private dinner at the Longwood House with Longwood President W. Taylor Reveley IV and Longwood Director of Athletics Troy Austin.
All proceeds from the LABC will help support the academic and athletic pursuits of Longwood student-athletes as well as operating expenses for Longwood’s athletics programs.
“The LABC is a chance to see, in person, the types of individuals your support is impacting,” Eggleston said. “By bringing in a live band for the first time in the event’s history, this will, without a doubt, be a night you do not want to miss.”
