The Barnes & Noble at Longwood bookstore on Main Street provides a crucial and very visible anchor tenant in downtown Farmville.
With the November 2017 grand opening of the Barnes & Noble at Longwood bookstore in its new Main Street location, downtown Farmville took another step toward realizing its full potential.
The move to the former First National Bank Building at the corner of Main and Third streets provides an additional anchor tenant for the area and increases downtown’s draw for Longwood students, faculty, staff and other shoppers. The idea emerged from discussions with all stakeholders, led by Farmville Downtown Partnership, which conducted a feasibility study related to the site in 2015, and Walk2Campus Properties purchased the building at the end of that year. The Longwood Real Estate Foundation rents the basement and first floor of the building for the bookstore; Walk2Campus converted the upstairs into four apartments designed for students.
“Every great college town needs a bookstore right in its center,” said Longwood President W. Taylor Reveley IV. “Longwood is intently focused on helping Farmville reach its potential with a truly great college-town Main Street. Working with a great partner in Walk2Campus to harness the vibrancy of our bookstore and add to the great momentum already under way along Main Street fits perfectly with our mission.”
