In 2008, couples began putting locks on the Pont des Arts bridge in Paris—the city of love. The practice quickly caught on in a big way, and inspired graduating senior Paige Rollins ‘15 to create a similar tradition at Longwood.
“The locks will remain locked on the fence forever because each and every graduate is part of the Longwood spirit,” said Rollins. “These locks symbolize that relationship."
The locks are on display next to the fountain at Beale Plaza, a central hub of campus and a daily reminder to students and campus visitors of the enduring spirit of Longwood.
As more legacy locks are put on the fence, it will also be a daily reminder to Longwood students of the generations of people who have gone in their place—an important link to the history we all hold dear.
