The Therapeutic Recreation students in the RECR 304: Leisure and Aging course just completed an intergenerational service learning project with the participants at the Piedmont Senior Resources Friendship Café’. The students were partnered with an older adult so they could learn about their life. To practice their interviewing skills, the students gathered information using a social history questionnaire. Upon completion of the interview, the students took photos of the older adults’ hands and wrote a short biography highlighting their major life accomplishments and leisure interests. The students made three visits to the Friendship Café’ and on the final visit, they presented the framed photos and biographies as a keepsake of their time together. The students even joined in the fun at the Friendship Café and played Bingo with the participants.
