Students walk with harnesses to the ropes course during the 2021 leadership retreat - Four students wearing harnesses and gloves walk together along a grassy path bordered by a wooden fence. They smile and chat, appearing relaxed after an outdoor adventure activity. The group is dressed in athletic clothing and carrying water bottles. Lush green trees form a bright, natural backdrop.

With dedicated Honors housing, lounges & study space there are daily opportunities to cultivate intellectual growth, nurture character and inspire leadership development.

The result—the enthusiastic discovery of individualized citizen leaders within a community of approximately 400 students.

Honors is so much more than academics; it's an incredibly supportive community. The faculty really want you to succeed and get students the best opportunities. I've been amazed by the kindness and dedication that faculty show to their students."

Community

An honors student at the retreat laughs with her friends - Students sit together at picnic tables under a wooden shelter, enjoying a relaxed outdoor moment. A student in the foreground laughs warmly while talking with a friend. Others chat in small groups in the background, creating a lively, friendly atmosphere. The scene feels casual and welcoming, with natural light filtering through the trees.

Wheeler Residence Hall

The majority of incoming CHC students elect to live in Wheeler Residence Hall—a historic and beautifully renovated hall, built in 1966—that is also home to a high-tech classroom, which brings honors classes and co-curricular activities right into the heart of our students’ everyday experience.

I made my best friends and my best memories living in Wheeler. Take a chance and apply to Honors―who knows where it will lead you.

students sit outside stevens hall - Three students sit on the grass in front of a red-brick campus building, spaced apart and wearing face masks. They appear to be engaged in conversation, enjoying a casual outdoor class or meeting. Sunlight filters through the trees, casting soft shadows on the lawn. The setting feels calm and studious, reflecting a socially distanced campus atmosphere.

Stevens Hall

Diagonally across and only steps away from Wheeler Hall is Stevens Hall, where both honors students and faculty teaching honors courses gather. There is a student lounge with a kitchenette, a thinker-maker-creator room, study carrels as well as faculty and administrative offices all located on the first floor of Stevens.

Why I Chose Honors

honors students climb the ropes course - Students wearing harnesses navigate a ropes course suspended among tall trees. Wooden platforms and cables connect the course elements high above the ground. The group works together, balancing and clipping into safety lines. Bright green leaves and dappled sunlight create a lively, adventurous atmosphere.

Leadership Retreat

A “low intensity, high purpose” environment for you to connect and become familiar with staff, professors and campus through team-building and critical thinking exercises as well as community and campus service projects.

“By far, my favorite memory of Honors is the unique Leadership retreat, where first-year students are welcomed to Lancer Life. The very first day you find your Longwood family, and the relationships that are formed with peers and faculty are everlasting."
