Two of the eight educators named by the Virginia Department of Education as 2023 Regional Teachers of the Year are Longwood alumni.
Region 5 Teacher of the Year Lori C. Peltonen, librarian at Staunton High School, earned a Master of Science in Education with a concentration in School Library Media in 2005.
Region 8 Teacher of the Year Megan G. Graves, special education teacher at Appomattox High School, earned a Master of Science in Education with a concentration in Special Education PK-12 General Curriculum in 2014.
The 2023 Virginia Teacher of the Year, selected from these eight, will be named on September 30, and this educator will represent the Commonwealth in the Council of Chief State School Officer’s National Teacher of the Year Program.
