Jacqueline Secoy
Associate Professor of Music Education and Program Coordinator of Music Education

Dr. Jackie Secoy joined the music faculty at Longwood in 2016. Dr. Secoy is the Music Education Program Coordinator, helping to guide students through the Music Education Major in order to achieve a teaching license in PK-12 music. She teaches courses in ukulele, guitar, elementary music methods, integrated arts, world music, practicums, student teaching experiences, and Longwood Life. 

Dr. Secoy earned her Bachelor of Music in Music Education focusing on instrumental music education and Indonesian gamelan at Bowling Green State University. She earned her Master of Music Education with a Kodály emphasis at Capital University. She earned her PhD in Music Education and Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Ethnomusicology from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Secoy has presented at state, national, and international conferences on ukulele instruction, participatory music making, popular music education, musician identity development, aural music learning, and informal music learning. Prior to teaching at the collegiate level, she taught general music, beginning band, and guitar in public school grades four through eight and home music instruction in Central Ohio.

Dr. Secoy continues to seek new skills in teaching music to people of all ages. She is a Modern Band Fellow, has completed Levels 1-3 of James Hill Ukulele Initiative Teacher Training, and is currently working to complete Orff-Schulwerk Levels training.
