Saxophonist Sheri Oyan is a freelance musician and private teacher in Richmond, VA. She has maintained a thriving private studio in both the Richmond area and in McLean, VA for several years. At the college level, she currently serves as an Adjunct Saxophone Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University and Longwood University. As a performer, her main interests lie in new music; she was recently part of the consortium that commissioned Jenni Watson’s Adjusting Parameters, a large scale work for saxophone and backing tracks. She presented the entire 73 minute piece in performances at both VCU and Longwood and select movements at the Navy Band International Saxophone Symposium at George Mason University.
Sheri has performed locally, nationally and internationally as a solo artist and in chamber ensembles, most notably as the soprano player in the quux saxophone quartet and with the new music ensemble she founded, quux collective. A sought-after hire for performing companies, Sheri has played countless shows in the pit for musicals at many local theater companies, and can often be heard at Swift Creek Mill Theatre, where she has worked as a woodwind doubler and bassist since 2007. She has also played with many orchestras, including the Richmond Symphony, Fairfax Symphony, Williamsburg Symphony and the Baton Rouge Symphony, among others. Dr. Oyan holds degrees in Saxophone Performance from Louisiana State University (D.M.A.), George Mason University (M.A) and VCU (B.M.).
