Assistant Professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders and Program Director for Communication Sciences and Disorder

Alison R. King, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, LSLS Cert. AVT is an Assistant Professor in the Communication Sciences and Disorders program. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Appalachian State University, a Master’s degree from the University of South Carolina, and a Ph.D. from Virginia Commonwealth University.  She teaches in the areas of research methods, Autism, and aural habilitation. Her research interests include professional preparation of SLPs, caregiver coaching in early intervention, and aural habilitation of young children with hearing loss.

Dr. King has worked in the public schools, early intervention, and as the Auditory Therapist on the cochlear implant team at VCU. She was appointed by Governor Northam in 2018 to the Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology and the Board of Health Professions. She also serves on the boards of VA DEC and VA AG Bell.  Recently, Dr. King began serving on the editorial board of Volta Voices. During her free time, Dr. King enjoys spending time with her three daughters, traveling, and going to concerts.
