Justin Jordan PhD LPC CSAC is an Assistant Professor in Longwood University's Counselor Education Program. Dr. Jordan has a decade of experience counseling adults and adolescents in community agency and private practice settings, mostly in rural southwest Virginia. He specializes in substance use counseling and providing affirming services to the LGBTQ+ community. His experiences as a practicing counselor inform his approach to teaching, with a focus on bringing real world scenarios and dynamics into the classroom. His research interests include: counselors' response to the Opioid Epidemic, harm reduction, counselor professional identity among substance use counselors, and humanistic counseling. He has presented on these topics at state, regional, and national conferences, as well as co-authoring several articles in counseling journals, including the Journal of Counseling and Development and the Journal of Counselor Leadership and Advocacy. Dr. Jordan is actively involved in state and national counseling organizations, including the Virginia Counselors Association and the Association for Humanistic Counseling.
Dr. Jordan believes that counselors make an impact on society by helping individuals improve their wellness, which in-turn improves the health of families and communities. Dr. Jordan strives to stimulate passion for helping people with mental health or substance use struggles among his students. His goal is support the development of emerging counselors who will go make a difference in communities and schools.
