Student Health
Are all students, faculty, and staff being tested before returning to campus?
No, Longwood will not require any surveillance testing.
Am I required to have a Covid-19 immunization to be a student at Longwood?
No, the state has informed universities that we cannot include Covid-19 immunization among the list of required vaccines for students, but we strongly encourage anyone who can safely receive the vaccine and appropriate boosters to do so.
Am I required to wear a face covering on campus?
Face coverings are currently optional in all indoor spaces on campus, including classrooms. We expect some members of our community will choose to continue to wear face coverings on campus, and we support their decision to do so. We have a supply of N95 face coverings available to campus community members who want one. To request one, email safety@longwood.edu.
What should I do if I test positive for Covid-19?
If you are at home or off-campus, we ask that you not return to campus for the CDC-recommended five day isolation period. After that, you may return to campus and go to class, but you need to wear a face covering for an additional five days. You are responsible for contacting your professors, letting them know your situation, and making a plan to join your classes remotely or make up missed work.
If you test positive, you need to email careteam@longwood.edu. They will help you plan your isolation period and coordinate with professors.
If you are on campus, you should follow current CDC guidance and isolate for five days. Students who test positive for Covid-19 will be expected to isolate for five days at their home or in their rooms following CDC and state guidelines. We will work directly with any students with extenuating circumstances or requires further support. After your initial isolation period, you may return to class, but you need to wear a face covering for an additional five days. You are responsible for contacting your professors, letting them know your situation, and making a plan to join your classes remotely or make up missed work.
Can I get tested for Covid-19 at the University Health Center?
Yes. Make an appointment by calling 434-395-2102.
Can I get vaccinated/boosted at the University Health Center?
If the University Health Center has vaccines available, you can schedule an appointment and receive a vaccine there. Please check vaccine availability by calling 434-395-2102. If there are no vaccines currently available at the University Health Center, several other locations in Farmville offer the vaccine:
Walmart and Walgreens both have the Moderna vaccine, while CVS has the Pfizer vaccine. All are free of charge.
My family’s finances have changed because of Covid-19. Do I qualify for more financial aid?
Longwood understands that some family finances have been negatively impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, and we are here to work with you. Contact the Financial Aid Office at finaid@longwood.edu or 434-395-2077 to request a “Change in Income” form to reflect your current financial situation.
Academics
Will classes be in-person in Fall 2022?
Classes will be in-person and on-time. There may be instances where faculty members, due to individual circumstances, cannot hold a class or two in-person. In that case, they will contact class members with instructions.
Will students have the option of joining all of their classes remotely?
Undergraduate students have the option to search and register for classes with different meeting times and methods, though there are typically very few online-only classes. We will not make accommodations going forward for students to attend scheduled in-person classes remotely.
Are face coverings required in classrooms?

Information for Faculty & Staff
Are Longwood employees required to be vaccinated?
No, the state has informed universities that Covid-19 immunization cannot be a condition of employment.
Are Longwood employees required to wear face coverings on campus?
Face coverings are currently optional in all indoor spaces on campus, including classrooms. We expect some members of our community will choose to continue to wear face coverings on campus, and we support their decision to do so. If you would like to request an N95 mask, please contact your area coordinator who will secure one from the Environmental Health & Safety office.
Can Longwood employees work from home?
Employees requesting accommodation, including flexible work schedules, should contact Human Resources and their supervisor. Telework Agreements must be reviewed and approved by HR and the employee’s supervisor.
Am I eligible for a special category of time off if I test positive and have to isolate?
Public Health Emergency Leave has expired. Employees who test positive and need to isolate for five days are expected to take sick leave for days they are not able to work. If you have questions about leave, please email HRCovid19@longwood.edu.
Campus Visitors
Are campus visitors required to wear face coverings on campus?
Face coverings are currently optional in all indoor spaces on campus, including classrooms. We expect some visitors to campus will choose to continue to wear face coverings on campus, and we support their decision to do so.
Are campus visitors required to show proof of vaccination before visiting Longwood?
No.

Approved by the Commonwealth of Virginia in 2020, our Longwood Campus Preparedness Plan outlined the university's response to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Our Shared Commitment
Conceived and implemented by the Student Government Association, all Longwood students in 2020-2021 were asked to commit themselves to nine pledges that aligned with community safety guidelines.
Federal Aid FAQ
Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act
Who received a CRRSA grant?
All Longwood undergraduate students who had a valid FAFSA on file and received federal Pell Grant funding for Spring 2021 before April 6, 2021, received a CRRSA grant.
How much money was distributed to students through the CRRSA?
Longwood received approximately $1.6 million from the CRRSA to support students with a financial need related to the Covid-19 pandemic, all of which was distributed to students.
How was the money distributed?
Students returning for the 2021-22 academic year had their funding applied directly to their student accounts unless they opted to receive a check. Graduating seniors or other eligible students not returning for the 2021-22 academic year received a check in the mail.
Are graduate students eligible for CRRSA funding?
Graduate students could apply to receive CRRSA grants if they met the following criteria:
- Enrolled in a campus-based graduate program in spring 2021 as of add/drop deadline for full-term
- Have a current FAFSA on file with Longwood as of April 6th
- Have demonstrated need
- Experienced an emergency cost that arose due to coronavirus such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental), childcare

The federal government has approved three separate relief packages with funds appropriated for students in higher education. They are:
- CARES Act. Approximately $1.6 million was distributed to qualifying students in Spring 2020.
- Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act. Approximately $1.6 million was distributed to qualifying students in July 2021.
- American Rescue Plan (ARP). Approximately $4.5 million was distributed to qualifying students.
Are there different qualifying students for each round of funding?
Yes. Part of the difference is that the federal government allocates portions of the money for specific populations of students, and we follow those guidelines.

Who received ARP funding?
All Longwood undergraduate students received funding through the American Rescue Plan.
How much money was distributed to students through the ARP?
Longwood received approximately $4.5 million from the ARP to support students with a financial need related to the Covid-19 pandemic, all of which was distributed to students.
Are graduate students eligible for ARP funding?
Some graduate students were eligible for ARP grant funding, and those who are have been contacted by the College of Graduate and Professional Studies about applying for those grants.
Is the grant money taxable?
