Ashley Brown, a senior in Kinesiology, PK-12 will be recognized at the state Virginia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance conference. She has been named the recipient of the Frances Mays Scholarship, which is awarded to the outstanding undergraduate student in health and physical education in the Commonwealth.
The award is presented each year to an undergraduate student who emulates the personal qualities, high ideals, and professional ethics for which Frances A. Mays was known, admired, respected and loved. The recipient must have shown outstanding personal qualities, high ideals, good scholarship, and professional ethics.
Ms. Brown is past president of PHETE First and currently is the student representative to the VAHPERD Board of Directors. She has had an article published with Dr. Matt Lucas in the Virginia Journal, and is involved in two presentations at the conference. A native of Fauquier County, she will student teaching this spring and will return to Longwood for the Masters in Education program in Health and Physical Education.
