Commmunity Service
Faculty and staff served the local community in numerous ways — from supporting the community garden, to offering support groups for persons with hearing loss and families with children in special education, providing the following direct services:
• 12 young adults with disabilities participated in Longwood LIFE • 594 K-12 students in the Institute for Teaching through Technology and Innovative Practice (ITTIP) camps and programs • 71 students in virtual Teaching and Gifted camps • 8 students in a virtual Speech, Hearing, and Learning Services (SHLS) camp • 33 hearing screenings at SHLS • 1167 speech-language visits at SHLS • 408 audiology visits at SHLS 118 early intervention (ages 0–3) clients through the Infant and Toddler Connection of the Heartland at SHLS • 38 children served at Andy Taylor Center for Early Childhood Development • 174 K-12 teachers served through ITTIP’s professional development programs • 28 early childhood teachers trained in CPR or medication training through SHLS’ Virginia Quality grant • 270 Book Buddy bags promoting early literacy distributed to HeadStart programs and early childhood providers
