Longwood alumni have the chance to give back in ways that directly impact students’ professional development. Whether you have an hour, a day, or a semester to contribute, your time and expertise can help students gain the skills, confidence, and networks they need to succeed.
From mentoring to storytelling, there are many ways to give back. Explore the opportunities below to see how you can support students and strengthen the Longwood community in a way that fits your interests and availability.
Support students at career fairs and networking events by introducing them to employers, answering questions, and modeling professional networking techniques.
Support the next generation of Lancers by modeling strong networking skills at career services–sponsored events. As a Networking Professional, you’ll share your insights, demonstrate effective networking techniques, and offer advice on navigating professional networks with confidence.
Conduct mock interviews with students in person or via Zoom to help them practice answering questions and gain confidence.
Guide a student whose career interests align with yours through a semester-long, structured connection. Mentors meet with their mentee at least three times (in person or virtually) and provide insight, feedback, and encouragement. You’ll receive a handbook with suggested topics to make each meeting impactful.
Share your career journey, industry knowledge, and tips for success as part of a panel or workshop on topics like professional networking and workplace readiness.
Invite a student to spend a day or part of a day with you in your workplace. Show them your day-to-day responsibilities, introduce them to colleagues, and share career advice.
Provide a student with a short-term, high-impact project (20 hours) that gives them valuable professional experience and gives your organization fresh insights.
Offer a credit-bearing internship to a Longwood student and play an active role in their career development. Internships are typically one semester long, coordinated through academic departments, and designed to provide meaningful, hands-on learning. By hosting an intern, you not only mentor emerging professionals but also bring new energy and perspectives to your workplace.
Inspire the next generation of Lancers by sharing your Longwood journey. As a Career Success Storyteller, you’ll highlight your professional achievements and how your Longwood experience prepared you for success, helping prospective students see the real impact of a Longwood education.
