Two mentors and their students chatting one-on-one

Guide the next generation of Longwood graduates.

The Alumni Mentorship Program connects current students with alumni who can offer valuable insight into careers, industries, and the professional world. Through this structured, semester-long program, you’ll help students gain confidence, expand their networks, and prepare for life after graduation — while strengthening your own connection to the Longwood community.

Why Become a Mentor?

  • Make a direct impact on a student’s career readiness
  • Strengthen the alumni network
  • Give back in a way that fits your schedule and expertise
  • Stay connected to Longwood and discover fresh perspectives from emerging professionals

How It Works

  • Time Commitment: Meet with your mentee at least three times over the semester (in person, virtually, or both.) You'll also attend an orientation before the program begins.
  • Matching Process: Students are paired with mentors whose career interests align with their own
  • Support Materials: We’ll provide a mentor handbook with conversation prompts, suggested activities, and tips for making each meeting meaningful
  • Flexible Approach: You and your mentee decide how to structure your meetings and stay in touch

Timeline

  • Summer: Mentor recruitment begins
  • October-November: The Career Team will notify you of your mentee match
  • January: Mentors will attend orientation and begin working with their mentee!
  • January-April: Mentors will regularly meet with their mentee, follow the outline in the handbook, and spark meaningful conversations.
