Engage students. Advance your projects.

Hosting a micro-internship is a flexible, high-impact way to connect with Longwood students while making progress on meaningful projects. These short-term, 20-hour experiences allow students to apply classroom learning in a professional setting—and give you the chance to assess future talent, gain fresh perspectives, and strengthen your connection to the Lancer community.

I enjoyed getting to know my micro-intern and providing her with a sense of what a career in graphic design would be like. I appreciated how relaxed the internship was, we could work the way that made sense for us.

How Can I and My Company/Organization Participate?

Become a project host and bring your ideas to life! Do you have a project that’s been waiting for the right moment to get started? Now’s your chance to make it happen!

Consider your organization's requirements and pinpoint tasks suitable for a university student with clear expectations. Micro-internships offer students practical experience and industry insights while enabling you to complete essential projects. If you have any questions or would like to discuss potential projects, please reach out to our associate director of work-based experiences at bellamysankard@longwood.edu.

How It Works

  1. Submit a Project Proposal - Describe your project, objectives, and required skills.
  2. Get Matched - We’ll connect you with a student whose interests and qualifications align with your needs.
  3. Kick Off - Meet virtually or in-person to outline the project and expectations.
  4. Collaborate - Engage with your student throughout the project, providing feedback and guidance.
  5. Wrap Up - Conclude with a final meeting, review deliverables, and share feedback.

Employer commitments:

  • Provide clear instructions and expectations
  • Meet with the student at least three times (kickoff, midpoint, wrap-up)
  • Complete a brief feedback survey at the end
  • Optional: Provide compensation at or above Virginia’s hourly minimum wage
