A sculptural book artist and papermaker with an affinity for letterpress, Kerri Cushman escorted students in her Studio Art 217 Surface Design course to Hull Springs in March 2018 to explore the potential found within this unique outdoor, hands-on living laboratory environment. Hull Springs provided students with an opportunity to explore sustainability concepts, collect native fibers, and creatively produce site-specific work. This student investigation focused on incorporating nature into his/her own personal artwork. The main techniques explored included making paper from natural fibers, collecting objects, and creating a large-scale weaving. In addition, students formed their own artistic community, weaving together their different concentrations and individuals skills.
In addition, participants will be encouraged to make his/her own personalized pamphlet stitched book.
