Academic Advising and Graduation Requirements

Advising

Individual Academic Advising Sessions

Academic advising sessions are held between each student and their assigned professor starting one week before the registration period for each semester. All students are encouraged to schedule an advising appointment, even if they are not required to do so.

Registration PIN Requirement
Students with fewer than 45 earned credit hours must obtain a registration PIN from their advisor in order to register for classes. Although not required for all students, advising is strongly recommended to avoid errors during course selection. Students are responsible for any scheduling mistakes made without advisor consultation.

What to Bring to Your Advising Session

Students should maintain a personal advising folder, which includes:

  • Notes from previous advising sessions
  • Academic planning materials
  • Relevant forms or degree checklists

Tip: Refer to the advising checklist found on each academic concentration’s webpage for detailed guidance.

Application for Graduation

Students must submit an Application for Graduation to the Longwood University Registrar after earning 75 credit hours.

Important Notes:

  • “Earned credits” refer to credits from courses you have received a final grade.
  • Failure to apply on time will result in a registration hold on your student account.
  • This hold prevents class registration and may delay graduation.
  • The hold is lifted once the graduation application is submitted.
