FALL to EARTH is an intermedia collaboration between Mateo Galvano, a
multimedia conceptual artist, and C. David Russell, whose practice includes
performing objects as well as scenic and costume design for theater. The
collaborative team initiates each new project with a word or phrase derived from
the core of their individual artistic practices. They examine juxtapositions of
visual imagery and material exploration that invite open-ended interpretations
from the viewer. FALL to EARTH features sculptural installations and a series of
mixed media drawings.
Primarily engaged with abstract painting, Mateo Galvano uses drawing and
sculptural installation to foment conceptual themes that inform the images and
objects he makes. His multimedia studio and exhibition practice reflects a
position of experimentation with ideas and presentation strategies. He is an
administrator and lecturer at Ohio University School of Art + Design.
C. David Russell is interested in conceptual investigations between the physical
and non-material realms. The abstract sculptures and environments he devises
arise from his expertise in theater design and puppet craft. He is Associate
Professor of Scenic Design and head of the Production Design and Technology
program at Ohio University School of Theater.
