Each classroom in our learning space is named after a tree:
An atelier is a space where children engage in a variety of hands-on, creative, and open-ended activities. The term "atelier" is Italian and translates to mean “workspace.” The atelier is a fundamental component of the Reggio Emilia approach and encourages creative exploration, multisensory experiences and child-led learning, focusing on the process of creating rather than the product.
Each class comes to the atelier once a week and is introduced to different artistic mediums, loose parts provocations and natural materials. Documentation, another component of Reggio education, allows for teachers to show the learning process and display children’s work for families to see.
Our outdoor playspace serves as an “outdoor classroom,” set up in learning centers that include dramatic play, art, gardening, and construction. In addition to our outdoor playspace, children often go on walkabouts to visit our surrounding neighborhood community.
