Research with human and animal subjects must conform to federal regulations designed to ensure adequate protection of the subjects involved.

Committees

Two committees appointed by the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs review and approve or reject research proposals submitted by Longwood faculty, staff and students or by external researchers.

Visit the appropriate committee’s web pages for more information, including proposal instructions and forms.

  • The Institutional Review Board (IRB) deals with human subjects research.
  • The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) deals with animal subjects research.

Training Requirements

Longwood University requires all faculty, staff and students submitting research proposals to complete online training provided by CITI (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative).

See CITI Program Training for access instructions and how to enroll in the course specified by IRB or IACUC.
