Hello all —
Thanks everyone for the hard work that has gone into this successful first week of classes. It is always so wonderful this time of year to see our students back and campus humming with activity.
I’m pleased to invite the campus community to Convocation, on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 4 p.m. in Willett Hall, marking the ceremonial opening of the academic year. It is a great Longwood tradition, an occasion to honor and celebrate both our seniors and our outstanding faculty.
Our speaker at Convocation this year will be one of the most accomplished and admired members of the Longwood community through the decades: Softball Coach Kathy Riley. With 809 career wins and five Big South Championships and NCAA Tournament appearances, during her 26 years of coaching (22 at Longwood), Kathy stands among the greatest figures in Longwood athletics history. More importantly, she is a person of extraordinary character and a devoted mentor to countless students and colleagues. She is a shining example of the work of nurturing young people to which we all aspire, and I hope you can attend – the event is very much open to all faculty and staff.
