With Spring Weekend ahead, there is some wonderful news to share.
Philanthropy is crucial to Longwood’s momentum, and today we are announcing the largest gift in the university’s history: $15 million from the incomparable Joan Brock ’64.
This historic gift will go towards the construction of a new convocation and events center next to Willett Hall, to be named the Joan Perry Brock Center. It will serve as a gathering place for academic ceremonies and other community events, and as a new home for Longwood Men’s and Women’s Basketball.
The location of the new center will put it near the planned new music education building, which earlier this spring received state authorization to proceed with planning and design. Together these additions to Longwood will create a vibrant new quarter of campus for generations to come.
Joan Brock and her late husband Macon have been simply instrumental to the alma mater’s progress, and we are incredibly grateful now and always for their vision and devotion.
You can find more information in this announcement, which we will be sharing publicly later this morning.
Courtney Hodges, Louise Waller, Michelle Meadows, and Justin Pope have stewarded this idea, magnificently advancing it forward.
Many thanks,
President Reveley
